Letter. 1898.

A letter dated the 5th May, 1898, from Parkinson of Ralum, New Guinea, to Sir William MacGregor, Port Moresby, who was the Administrator of British New Guinea. The letter discusses the territorial boundaries between Great Britain and Germany in New Guinea, with the aim of establishing it as an imperial colony. He also mentions the Ultramantan Party and their support of the German Navy Bill. The correspondence also discusses an expedition up the Ranni river in the steamer Johann Albrecht. Parkinson makes reference to MacGregor's appointment as Governor of Lagos (Gold Coast, Nigeria) and tells of an imminent journey to northern New Ireland and New Hannover in search of minerals.

Sir William MacGregor born in Scotland 1875 became chief medical officer in Fiji. In 1888 appointed Administrator of British New Guinea. Instituted a police force and encouraged exploration.
